Fan Popo, a Chinese writer and director finished documentary Mama Rainbow. It is a film documenting the conversations between 6 gay individuals and their mothers. Somehow the film mysteriously disappeared from China’s domestic video sites. He hired a lawyer to sue SARFT after a month, but he soon realized that invisible review are running behind.

CHEN Ah Wei

Chen Ah Wei was born in 1984 in Fujian, China. From 2008 to 2012, he worked in television editing in Beijing. In 2013, he became as an unemployed migrant. In 2014, he began to work on independent documentary movie. In 2017, he produced and completed a documentary "Block And Censor" .

Jury's Comment

本片揭露了導演范坡坡維權對抗中國政府部門的完整過程，跟隨著冷靜客觀的影像紀錄，反讓人對於無所不在的國家監控審查感到不寒而慄，彷彿反烏托邦小說《一九八四》的老大哥真實存在。

這個案件拖了很長時間，快一年多吧。范波波什麼事也不能做。我們也就是有事情的時候過去。就變成影片最後看見的樣子。中國的審查是一個系統的東西，當影像、影展一但擁有影像力了，就不行了。我給我朋友看時，大家都覺得沒什麼。這不是一個事件。不能傳影片到土豆、優酷就不要嘛，這就是現況。
審查在中國的歷史是很駕輕就熟的，被審查者也是很熟悉的、司空見慣的。人已經異化的，自我審查變成一種必要。
