\/>2019\uff0c\u59bb\u5b50\u96e2\u5bb6\u51fa\u8d70\u5f8c\uff0cE\u958b\u59cb\u99d5\u5bb6\u9577\u8eca\u300c\u63a5\u653e\u5b78\u300d\uff0c\u63a5\u8f09\u7d20\u672a\u8b00\u9762\u7684\u6297\u722d\u8005C\uff0c\u5f77\u5f7f\u770b\u898b\u81ea\u5df1\u537b\u5df2\u4e0d\u50cf\u7576\u5929\u7684\u5c11\u5e74\u3002<\/p><p>2014\u5e74\u4f54\u9818\u904b\u52d5\u6e05\u6383\u4e00\u7a7a\u4ee5\u5f8c\uff0c\u793e\u6703\u5f4c\u6f2b\u4f4e\u6c23\u58d3\uff1b\u81f32019\u5e74\u6297\u722d\u7206\u767c\uff0c\u63ed\u7834\u5e7b\u8c61\uff0c\u6b72\u6708\u65e2\u975e\u975c\u597d\uff0c\u4e00\u5207\u4e26\u4e0d\u5982\u5e38\uff0c\u4f46\u7121\u671b\u4ea6\u70ba\u865b\u5984\u3002\u6b64\u523b\u820a\u4e8b\u91cd\u63d0\uff0c\u4f46\u9858\u900f\u904e\u56de\u61b6\u5f9e\u524d\u6240\u8d70\u904e\u7684\u8ff7\u9727\uff0c\u6216\u8a31\u5c0d\u7576\u524d\u9762\u5c0d\u96c6\u9ad4\u5275\u50b7\u6709\u6240\u555f\u767c\uff1b\u4ecd\u53ef\u78ba\u4fe1\uff0c\u6539\u8b8a\u7e3d\u5728\u4e0d\u53ef\u80fd\u8655\u767c\u751f\u3002\u4ee5\u6b64\u5171\u52c9\u3002<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>I. 2014 <br \/>He and she fell in love during the Umbrella Movement. The movement faded, so did their relationship, leaving behind a city haunted by helplessness.<\/p><p>II. 2019 <br \/>After his wife left him, E began driving a getaway car for young protesters. In their faces, he glimpsed his younger self, confronting all he had lost.<\/p><p>Years of disappointment followed the occupy movement, until the streets stirred again in 2019, awakening something long buried. Perhaps hopelessness is only an illusion. He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and previously worked for an NGO. With a commitment to civil society and filmmaking, his works reflect on social movements through image, and on image through politics. He directed the documentary Hong Kong&#8217;s Road to the Abolishment of Death Penalty for Amnesty International Hong Kong in 2013. His short film The Autonomous Era (2015) received Special Mention in Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival 2015 and REC Filmfestival Berlin 2017. Both were eventually shelved. Years later, when certain things seem to repeat, I wondered if it was time to bring them back to life.<\/p><p>Placed together, the two seemingly unrelated stories become a kind of Kuleshov experiment: the meaning of one shot shifts when placed alongside another. Things may appear unrelated when seen alone, yet side by side, new meanings emerge.<\/p><p>Most of the film was created with AI-generated imagery, with hand retouching, to reconstruct a Hong Kong we can no longer return to. This was partly due to a lack of funding and practical constraints, but more importantly, I didn't want to put any team at risk. The limitations of AI footage\u2014its morphing and visual discontinuities, especially with human figures\u2014led me to embrace blurred imagery and discontinuity editing, creating ambiguity and uncertainty in the narrative. Perhaps this is what memory is like.<\/p><p>Fiction and AI-generated images may seem to take us further from \"reality\". Yet this film does not attempt to reconstruct history\u2014that is impossible\u2014but to offer fleeting glimpses that awaken memories.
