In the 1920s, Ē-iânn was an important stronghold of the Taiwan Peasants Union. After WWII, members of the old Peasants Union joined the underground Communist Party and brought on a red struggle of peasants and land. In 2022, we teamed up with three local youths. Based on the memoirs of ng Tsuí-liû, a Ē-iânn political prisoner of the White Terror, we collected a set of images for historical memory. This film is a spiritual image composed of 27 scenes. We try to relocate what has happened in the past to its original site, and to represent the disappeared event/spirit.

HUNG Wei-Lin
Graduated from Ecole supérieure d'Etudes Cinématographiques de Paris (ESEC). Since 2019, she has participated in the “The Libera work-gang” and developed several creative projects about the historical memories of the White Terror. She is trying to respond to this history through video creation, memory collection, and public co-creation. Her works have been nominated in Hong Kong International Documentary Festival and Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

HSIN Pei-Yi
Graduated from Institute of Documentary & Film Archiving of Tainan National University of Arts. She focuses on conditions and forms of human existence in her documentaries, developing the self within and beyond the documentary border. Her works have been nominated in Golden Harvest Awards for Outstanding Short Films, Hangzhou Asian Film Festival, Hong Kong International Documentary Festival. During recent years she continues to create works on the White Terror with the members of The Libera work-gang.

一段發生在地方但少有人知的歷史事件如何呈現?從洪水流的回憶錄認識下營『台灣農民組合』以及紅色鬥爭、白色恐怖,而從『27』的靜照、圖像、影音、文字……,吾人或許/必然/可以認識曾經噤聲因而無人知曉的下營清晨。

What does “Ē-iânn”mean, in the eyes of the young living in contemporary Ē-iânn? “The Temple of Black Emperor, pig and chicken feces, a dull little village.” Until one day, they found out that their hometown was once an important base of the Taiwan Peasants Union in the 1920s, where the Red Fight of the farmers and the lands took place in the post-war period, and eventually ended by the stormy White Terror in the 1950s. 

These glorious moments turned into stories: people were “told” about the days of peace and affluence, but not without the feeling of a vague sense of fear. Those were things seen and heard, and gone with the memories.

這是一段過去且不會再重來的故事,我們試圖把它找回來。下營青年藉由他們的眼睛將這些風景重新顯影,帶領我們與隱沒的過去重逢、對話,重新看見家鄉的真實面貌
