Established in millennium, and held The South Award—Chinese Films Competition since the 3rd, The STFF and its competition encourages filmmakers who dedicated to Chinese issues, regardless his/her race, nationality but aim to offer audience with multi-perspective, radical, avant-garde and innovative spirits in works.

The 2024, 22nd South Taiwan Film Festival South Award—Chinese Films Competition: Call for Entries

The Aim of the Competition: Established in the 2000s and has held The South Award—Chinese Films Competition since its 3rd edition, The South Taiwan Film Festival (STFF) and the Competition aim at encouraging filmmakers, regardless of their gender, race or nationality, who are dedicated to issues concerning the Chinese community, as well as offering the audience film works that embody multi-perspective, radical, avant-garde and innovative spirits.

二、影展日期及活動：

  1. 2024 第22屆南方影展預計2024年11月舉辦。
  2. 完整入圍名單將於 2024年8月中旬，於南方影展官方網站、臉書專頁等社群媒體公布。
  3. 南方影展以雙年展之形式策展，雙數年舉辦競賽等主影展事項，奇數年為國內外舉行入圍作品之巡迴推廣放映。

III.Entry Qualification:

（一）The Competition opens globally. Films by filmmakers of Chinese ethnicity or films dedicated to issues about the Chinese community are all welcome to submission.。We accept feature-length or short films/videosin any genre completed after 1st January, 2022.(The Festival committee reserves the rights to determine the eligibility of all entries. Submissions received after the deadline are not guaranteed to be considered for the Competition.)

Qualification for certain Awards:

  1. Citizen TAINAN Award
    A. The Award is established to promote films that depict life in Tainan.
    （2）Only films shot in or related to Tainan are eligible for the Award.。
    (Please tick the box next to “Citizen TAINAN Award” in the application form should you wish to compete for this Award.)
  2. Rookie of the Year Award
    （1）The submitted work must bethe director’s debut or secondpublic work, which has not yet won any awards in any festivals or competitions either domestically or overseas (Awards received in in-school competitions are excluded).
    （2）The submitted work would be considered a “public work” if it has been selected for any festivals or competitions, either domestically or overseas, or publicly screened in any form of physical or online screenings (In-school screenings or graduation screenings are excluded).
    （3）The Festival committee reserves the rights to disqualify any Rookie of the Year Award winner upon eligibility check. (Please tick the box next to “Rookie of the Year Award” in the application form should you wish to compete for this Award.)
  3. 金光學生獎：
    （1）由台南崇藝術空間贊助相關獎項，旨在鼓勵具有在台灣就學之學生身分之影像創作者。年齡不限，然提名資格須於該作品完成時，仍具教育部認可之有效台灣學籍學生身分。
    （2）影片完成日期須於「2022年1月1號之後」，片長（含片頭、片尾）不得超過30分鐘（含）。
    （3）凡於2022年第六屆金光短片影展入圍或獲獎作品，均不得以任何版本重複參加本競賽。
    （4）須符合「電影片分級處理辦法」之保護級或保護級以下級別，並不得違反公共秩序或善良風俗。
    （5）必須在網路報名表中勾選角逐金光學生獎之選項。

IV.Submission procedure:Please complete your application on the STFF google form before 6th May, 2024:；報名分為兩階段。

  1. Early-bird submissions completed before 14th April, 2024 can enjoy FREE SUBMISSION.
  2. Submissions between 17th April to 6th May are subject to a registration fee of 500 NTD/20 USD per film.

V.Selection procedure:

  1. Duplicate submissions will result in disqualification.
  2. All shortlisted works MUST INCLUDE both Traditional Chinese and English subtitles. The screening format must be in DCP (Failing to meet the above criteria may result in disqualification).
  3. Download links for HD (1280 x 720 or higher) video files in .mov or .mpeg4, with file size NOT EXCEEDING 4GB.
  4. 若參賽者無法在報名截止日期前備齊所需報名資料、完整影片及相關素材，影展單位將視其為放棄報名資格，敬請密切留意。

VI.Prizes:入圍者將由主辦單位贈予入圍證書，得獎者另頒獎座及獎金。獎項如下（新台幣別）：

South Award: 1 for 80.000 NTD
Best FilimBest Fiction FeatureBest Fiction Feature (Over 60mins), Best Fiction Short (Under, or exactly 60mins0sec),Best Documentary Feature (Over 30mins),、Best Documentary Short (Under, or exactly 30mins0sec),、Best Animation, Best Experimental Film 1 Winner for each category, 30,000 NTD (Should the winner of The South Award be one of the winners of the above categories, only the prize money of The South Award will be awarded.)

Rookie of the Year：1 Winner, 30,000 NTD
Citizen TAINAN Award：1 Winner, 30,000 NTD
Human Rights Award：1 Winner, 30,000 NTD
【金光學生獎】：金光學生獎，獎金三萬元、金光醫療獎，獎金三萬元、青年評審團獎，獎金一萬元、金光學生電影海報獎，獎金一萬元。金光學生各獎項為會外獎，由崇藝術空間、崇恩牙醫診所贊助獎金，並參與入圍評選暨得獎名單。以上獎項均各為乙名；欲角逐此贊助獎項資格之參賽者，請詳見簡章第三項報名資格之第二點。
*金光學生電影海報獎參賽，需繳交直式 A4 尺（21×29.7cm）、JPG 或 PNG、解析度300dpi、RGB色彩模式之海報電子檔。海報獲獎者，需自行印製、裝裱並寄送一份 A1 尺寸（59.4×84.1cm）紙本海報給主辦單位。（若未能於原定時間送達，將取消獲獎資格，並依名次遞補）。

*According to the Taiwan Income Tax Act, foreign winners will be subject to a 20% income tax for prize money exceeding 20,000 NTD.*：

VII. Selection procedure:
A. The Competition consists of the preliminary round and the final round. The list of finalists will be announced on the official website and Facebook page of the South Taiwan Film Festival in mid-August. Winners will be announced during the festival in November. B. A category in the Competition may be subject to cancellation under the following conditions: a. Number of submissions for that category is under 20; b. Number of shortlisted submissions for that category is under 5; c. Should a category be canceled, all shortlisted submissions would be selected for screening in the Festival.

VIII. Rules and Regulations:

  1. Duplicate submissions will result in disqualification.
  2. 參賽者一旦完成網路報名程序後，保有取消作品參賽資格之權利，然報名費恕不退還。惟報名作品一旦入圍本屆影展，將不得以任何理由退出競賽。
  3. 本影展僅負擔放映拷貝之回程運費。 
  4. If all shortlisted works are deemed unable to meet the jury's standards, STFF reserves the right to not announce any Award winner. The cash prize would subsequently be redistributed to other Awards. 
  5. All shortlisted works MUST INCLUDE both Traditional Chinese and English subtitles. The screening format must be in DCP (Failing to meet the above criteria may result in disqualification).。且未在期限內與影展團隊聯繫進行溝通者，將視為放棄入圍資格
  6. All selected works would be used in the 22nd STFF’s activities with no charge, and the directors are obligated to participate in related activities during the Festival (If necessary.) 
  7. 入圍作品於本屆影展期間，無償授權於戲院內放映至少兩次，得獎作品則再加映乙場。
  8. The STFF is organized on a biennial basis. All selected works are subject to 3 more non- profit screenings organized by the STFF in the year after the festival on no extra charge. 
  9. 競賽決審結果若未達該年度評審認定給獎之標準獎項得予以從缺，該獎項之獎金，得移作其他獎項使用。
  10. Apart from the screening copies, ALL SUBMITTED digital data will automatically become the property of the South Taiwan Film Festival and its organizer, the South Taiwan Film Organization. As to preserve for non-commercial, educational, promotional use. (Any additional screening(s) after the festival would be held under the mutual agreement between the copyright owner and Festival.)The STFF is allowed to preserve a digital copy of print in its archives for educational or non-profitable use.
  11.  金光學生獎入圍者需同意參賽作品（含影音、文字、劇照等相關資料），需無償授權贊助單位（崇藝術空間與崇恩牙醫診所）於該屆影展期間及後續相關文宣推廣活動之非營利使用。 
  12. 金光學生獎獲獎作品之播映版本，除將作為南方影展與崇藝術空間機構之資料建檔、相關學術研究使用外，贊助方亦有權合理使用（如公開放映、推廣、重製、編輯等）；僅限於崇藝術空間崇恩牙醫診所之實體放映、崇藝術空間官方網站與其相關之社群網站或影音平台之使用。
  13. The filmmaker will take full responsibility for any copyright infringement in their work. If the selected films are accused of and convicted for violations by a court, all cash prizes and trophies MUST be returned to the STFF.
  14. 本徵件辦法若有未竟事宜，影展主辦單位將依實際情況修正或另行公告。
