我試圖將《伙房》做成一部非常個人也非常集體的作品。
自民國70年代起，南部鄉村青年紛紛往外尋找出路，長輩們懷抱祝福的心情送走孩子。隨著時代悄然變遷，長輩們必須獨自面對晚年，而個人與個人聚在同一個地域中，也會成為集體的問題。我在屏東萬巒鄉五溝村，觀察到個人與集體的雙重特性。老屋的頹圮與人口外流是一種時代的呈現，並非哪一方的過錯。
《伙房》尋求的是一份理解，就這樣純粹地陪伴著這些在凋零聚落中生活著的人們。

I sought to make Through the Dust of Time a deeply personal yet collective work.
Since the 1980s, young people from rural villages in southern Taiwan have continuously left in search of new opportunities, sent off by their elders with heartfelt blessings. As times quietly shifted, these elders have had to face their twilight years alone. When such isolated individuals gather in the same area, it naturally becomes a collective issue.
In Wugou Village, Wanluan Township, Pingtung, I observed this dual nature of the individual and the collective. The crumbling of old houses and the outmigration of the population are merely reflections of the era, rather than the fault of any particular side.
Through the Dust of Time seeks only understanding—offering pure companionship to the people living in this fading settlement.
