Darren Aronofsky was born on February 12, 1969, in Brooklyn, New York. During his upbringing, Aronofsky developed a love for classic films, and as a teenager, he even spent time practicing graffiti art. After graduating from high school, Aronofsky attended Harvard University, where he studied film (including both live-action and animation). For his senior thesis, he directed the film Supermarket Sweep, starring Sean Gullette, which was finalist for a National Student Academy Award. In February 1996, Aronofsky began working on his first feature-length film, starting the concept for Pi (1998).
