“Only ...ism can save China”. Rain and time have erased part of this phrase painted on the façade of a house in a small village in the Chinese countryside. Facing the camera, the old woman who lives here tells the story of her deceased son and, through him, a little of her country’s history.

ZHANG Mengqi

Zhang Mengqi, was born in 1987. She graduated from the Dance Academy of China Minorities University in 2008. She and is currently a resident artist at CCD Workstation and has created and performance six theatre pieces Self-portrait and Dialogue with My Mother (2009), Self-portrait and Sexual Self-education (2010), Self-Portrait: At 47 KM (2011), Memory: Hunger (2010), Memory: Monument (2012), Reading Hunger (2016). She has created documentary films: Self-portrait with Three Women (2010), Self-Portrait: At 47 KM (2011), Self-portrait: Dancing at 47 KM (2012), Self-portrait: Dreaming at 47 KM (2013), Self-portrait: Building a bridge at 47 KM (2014), Self-portrait: Dying at 47 KM (2015) and Self Portrait: Birth in 47 KM (2016). Seven films complete her own “self-portrait series” .

本片以一個“空白”作為政治和電影反思的起點,導演透過個人視角對這片土地的細緻透視,闡釋了消失一代的記憶以及未來的希望,讓影片處處充滿著既幽默又魔幻的日常時刻。
